Health Tips for September 1

Health Tip: Plan for Potty Training

Preparing for potty training can help make the process easier for you and your toddler.

The American Academy of Pediatrics suggests:

  • Remaining positive throughout the process, praising your child for progress without being negative when there is a setback.
  • Monitoring your child's abilities and behaviors, and changing your approach, if necessary.
  • Trying to relax and have fun during this exciting time.

Health Tip: Children May Have PTSD

Children who witness or are involved in a tragedy may have symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder, although symptoms may differ from those in adults.

The U.S. National Alliance on Mental Illness mentions these potential warning signs of PTSD in children:

  • Having difficulty controlling emotions and reactions.
  • Having trouble beginning and maintaining relationships and friendships.
  • Having low self-esteem.
  • Having problems keeping up in school.
