Normal changes to the brain can cause a slight amount of memory loss as you get older.
The Harvard Medical School suggests these tips that may help boost your memory:
- Stay organized with calendars, lists and address books.
- Absorb new information in small, digestible pieces that are easier to remember.
- Focus on all of your senses when you learn something new.
- Use your brain by writing down new information, drawing a picture of it or saying something out loud.
- Repeat new information, and gradually space out study times.
- Take a class run by a medical professional on improving your memory.

Everyone forgets things now and then, and remembering everything naturally becomes more difficult as you get older.
But certain types of memory loss may indicate something much more serious. The American Academy of Family Physicians says the following warning signs should not be ignored:
- Suddenly forgetting things much more frequently than you once did.
- Having difficulty remembering tasks you have performed many times.
- Having trouble learning how to do new things.
- Telling the same stories or saying the same phrases repeatedly in a conversation.
- Having problems dealing with money or making decisions.
- Having difficulty keeping track of daily events.
