Health Tips for January 11

Health Tip: Walk for Good Health

Starting a walking regimen will help you feel better, stay healthier, and possibly lose weight.

The U.S. National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute offers these suggestions:

* Find a walking buddy, and set a firm walking schedule. Try to walk at least three times a week.
* Wear comfortable clothing, shoes and socks. Clothing shouldn't make you too warm or too cold.
* Drink plenty of water throughout the day. If possible, bring water with you during your walk.
* Your workout should consist of a warmup, a brisk walk, and a cool-down. All of these activities are important and shouldn't be neglected.

Health Tip: Take Care of Your Lips This Winter

The cold, dry air of winter can take a toll on your skin -- especially on the lips.

Here are suggestions to help protect your lips from painful drying and chapping, courtesy of the U.S. National Library of Medicine:

* Drink plenty of fluids to keep your skin well-hydrated.
* Protect and treat lips with a beeswax lip balm or petroleum jelly.
* Keep a humidifier running in your home to prevent the air from becoming too dry.
* Apply sunscreen to your lips.
* Avoid too much exposure to the sun or wind.
